Lagerstroemia

Extracts of this plant facilitate glucose transport and metabolism, while at the same time reducing the demand for insulin. They limit glycaemic peaks (they prevent sudden rises in glycaemia) without causing hypoglycaemia, either in healthy people or in people suffering from diabetes. Research shows that the corosolic acid contained in Lagerstreomia promotes optimal sugar utilisation and reduces the accumulation of fat in adipocytes. Lagerstreomia speciosa extract may support the treatment of metabolic syndrome by helping to reduce insulin resistance, overweight (especially abdominal fat), and cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

In an in vivo study with corosolic acid, a reduction in fasting blood glucose (23%) (p<0.05), insulin levels (41%) (p<0.05), body weight (10%) (p<0.05), fat mass and visceral fat (16%) (p<0.05), hepatic steatosis

The results of a study on subjects suffering from type 2 diabetes have confirmed that Lagerstroemia extract, at a daily dose equivalent to 0.48 mg of chorosolic acid, has a significant hypoglycaemic action.
